As we move swiftly from the first month of 2014 to the next, many people's thoughts will be turning to the question of decor in their homes. Perhaps you are tired of your current bedroom design and you are looking to make a few changes? If so, we have compiled the top trends for bedroom design this year:

Moroccan with a Twist

The Moroccan look is all the rage this season, with crisp white walls and chic white furniture. Contrast with accessories and bed linen in shades of blue, from bright cobalt, to aqua, to an understated navy. Geometric patterns, pom-pom trims, or chevron prints will all work really well. Silver or fretwork finishes will help to seal the look, and for an authentic Moroccan twist why not add in a leather pouffe or a luxurious oversized rug?

A Taste of the Orient

If you're looking for a chic, yet pretty, bedroom, then the oriental trend is perfect for you. Combine cherry blossom hues, Origami-style patterns and Japanese minimalism with hard concrete or wood flooring as your base. Furniture should be boxy and simple in design, whilst blinds need to be white and fairly plain. Dress up the room by adding in at least one authentic piece of Oriental furniture. To create a focal point, decorate the wall behind your bed with oriental printed wallpaper or fabric.

Country Style

Think rustic, traditional south meets the industrial north. Off-white walls, combined with taupe and blue striped bed linen makes for an understated, yet edgy vibe. Vintage furniture made from reclaimed wood looks great here, as do offbeat suitcase bedside tables and raw linen cushions. To add a hint of the contemporary, cap the room off with an antique clock or a stylish line print.

Sweet Scandinavia

Take Denmark as your starting point and transform your bedroom with white walls, grey floorboards and a host of bright, on-trend accessories. Black and white furniture help to create that Scandinavian feel, whilst adding in some daring hints of on-trend cobalt blue and orange makes the room come alive. A monochromatic printed bed linen set rounds off the look, and the more adventurous may also like to bring in a geometric rug for added effect.

Tropical Nights

For something really out-there, latch onto this seasons' must-have - the tropical print. Be bold and paint your walls black, before softening the effect with dramatic, oversized tropical bloom prints. A dark carpet or brown or black stained floorboards is essential, as you can then add in elaborate ornamental curtains and rugs for an exciting edge. Hot pinks or bright orange bed linen will make your bed the theatrical, thrilling focal point for the room.

These are but a few of the many striking design trends out there to choose from for the spring of 2014. If you feel pushed for space, it can be helpful to rearrange the room, or even to put in a drywall partition to create different areas. Remember, even the most uninspiring of bedrooms can be transformed with a little thought and imagination!
